What a difference a weekend makes. In the coldest winter I've spent in Lexington, the warm southern air apparently has blown back in. I went outside today for a run in shorts and a t-shirt, as we have temps in the upper 50s. Forecast calls for it to stay warm until Thursday, when it drops back down to our normal Jan. temperature of upper-40s. We will certainly get outside this week for some mountain/elevation training.
So I downloaded and digested this weekend's results, and I must say that the Colts defense looked outstanding! The Generals wrestling team was also in action and wrestled very well for the most part, and every single person wrestled at their seed or better, which is pretty outstanding for us. I feel like we made some major strides last week in practice after a disappointing dual showing last weekend. Had we had a full lineup, I think we would have been right in it for 3rd place.
Sammy Brusca's status is still not known, but I will update as soon as possible. I will post his gutsy performance tomorrow right here, so come back {UPDATE: NO VIDEO WILL BE POSTED}. Overall we did some very good things, like win 2 double overtime tie-breakers, and win some close matches in the third period. These are the things that I preach, and maybe we've turned that corner. I'm very pleased also with our technique. I have always been a believer that perfect technique will trump brute strength every time, as long as you stick to your fundamentals and maintain your mental focus. For the most part, we won when we did this. When we didn't, or we lost focus or discipline, we didn't.
Back to work today preparing for a very, very difficult quad this weekend.
