School Spirit

Another beautiful weekend in Lexington is in the books, and things around here continue to impress me. We had some absolutely awesome prospects on campus this weekend, all of whom I believe are game changers, and the flywheel of success is begining to turn. If things continue on their current trend, we will definitely make the transition from good to great in no time.

One thing I've come to realize since returning to Lexington is that I really love talking with high school students that are considering W&L for College. It doesn't matter to me if they're interested in wrestling, tennis, music, or any of our first-class academic programs, I want everyone to have the W&L experience, because I believe in it so much. One thing that's great about any prospect is that I never know what they will ask about, and it makes me think about some things that I wouldn't have considered before. It also makes me think about how fortunate I am to A) have attended W&L, and B) to live and work here every day. Walking around campus these past few weeks, doing things like honoring the Speaking Tradition, and interacting with the student body, faculty, and staff outside of my professional life, really makes me swell with pride in my institution. W&L is really unlike anywhere else, and it is a great pleasure for me to share that feeling with others. If you doubt that, all you need to do is spend a weekend on campus and talk to the students. I guarentee you'll see what I'm talking about.

Almost every sport is in season right now, and winter sports begin in the next week or 2, so campus, or at least the gym, is always busy. We begin practice next week and I am chomping at the bit to get it going! We've got some work to do, but we've got some great leadership from our Captains and we're highly motivated. Lucky for me, my athletes feel the same as I do about W&L, and we all want to do our School proud, which makes my job a heck of a lot simpler.
The weather continues to be amazing, and so I included this photo, which I love. Thanks for reading, come back this week for more postings, including Volume 3, issue 1 of The Franke Files, our wrestling alumni newsletter (posted in the links section).
