Mountain Biking on the Appalachian Trail

Part of my Spring Term duties include teaching 2 PE classes, and this semester I am doing badminton along with Mountain Biking. We have a class of 14 students and 2 instructors, and I must say, I wish I would have taken this class while I was a student, because it is awesome.

Yesterday, we went to some ATV trails right on the Blue Ridge Parkway (which runs through Lexington, as seen here), and it was an exhilarating ride over jumps, bumps, streams, and bridges. Some tough hills and some fast downhills, but overall very exciting, and it was a typically beautiful weather day in the mountains.

At the end of the class, we stopped on the James River and went onto the Appalachian Trail, where most of the class jumped off a bridge into the river, a 35 foot drop. The water was a bit cold, but it was the perfect end to a great ride!

Spring Term is a special time here at W&L, and the opportunities for different and exciting classes such as Mountain Biking, fly-fishing, Kayaking, and many others are what really set us apart. From the academic side of campus, students are encouraged to get out of the classroom and study abroad, or do one of our campus internships on Wall Street or in Washington, DC. Professors also offer great and unique courses in the Spring that you won't find anywhere else.

W&L is truly the total college package where you can do it all!
