W&L Invite Post-Mortem

It was a day of mostly ups and one huge down, as the Generals had 2 champions, 1 3rd, and took 5th place in the W&L Invitational last Saturday.

Starting with the down, after a great start as the team had won every match in the first round, freshman standout Jordan Yost received a vicious shot to the back of the head in a match that he was dominating, and unfortunately was forced to default the match and drop out of the tourney. The ref should have called it, but didn't, and Jordan's day was done before it really began. As a 2 seed, had he just advanced to the finals, we would have taken 3rd place, which is pretty good for only having 6 guys in the tournament. There is no time table for Jordan's return, but we are monitoring the situation closely and hopeful that he will be back in a few weeks.

The ups were that our senior captain Keith Jaworski (pictured) won the Outstanding Wrestler award after two great performances to win the 157 class, as well as Freshman Eric Fessel winning at 141. David Dennis also dropped a heart-breaking semi-final match, but bounced back to pin his next two opponents and take 3rd. Here is an update on team stats:

Sr. Keith Jaworski - 13-5, leads the team in team points and riding time points, 2nd in takedowns.

Jr. David Dennis - 13-7, 9 pins (2 pins shy of the single season record), 2nd in team points.
Fr. Eric Fessel - 11-1, 7 pins, 3rd in team points.
Fr. Jordan Yost - 13-4, 4th in team points.

Overall the team is wrestling well, but these injuries have really derailed a great season. We are solely focused on individual performances at this point, but still very positive about the future, as we gain a lot of guys back from injuries, bring in another outstanding recruiting class, and only graduate 1.

A special thanks to all the Alumni that returned last weekend, it meant a great deal to all of us. More on that towards the end of the season.
