Event 1: Team Push-ups - 75 seconds - 1 point
The Blue Team looked to be unstoppable on paper, but the white team prevailed by over 50. Leading the way for the white team was Jr. David Dennis, who did 105 push-ups in 1:15.
White team begins the day up 1 to 0.
Event 2 - Team Sit-ups - 1 minute - 1 point
The white team, captained by wily veteran Keith Jaworski, cruised to another victory in sit-ups, winning by 60.
White up 2-0.
Event 3 - 3x100,1x200 relay, 3 points
Fresh off back to back losses, the Blue Team took advantage of favorable matchups, and won by over 200 meters. This event was weighed heavily, and perhaps the veteran white team made some match-up mistakes.
Blue-3, White-2
9 team members, split up any way and run a stair lap in opposite directions. First back to the start wins.
The white team capitilized on superior strategy to win the event handily, taking an overall lead 4-3.
This was one of the most hotly contested events of the day, and it literally came down to the last flip. With only 3 or 4 flips remaining for victory, the white team may have let up a little, while the blue team had some serious power at the end. When the dust settled, blue had won by inches, literally. Despite winning 3 of the first 5 events, the White team trailed 6-4.
The 6th Event was the Dizzy Bat Obstacle course. Due to technical difficulties, we don't have any good photos from this event, but there was some controversy regarding the judging of complete dizzy bat spins. White ultimately wins, taking their 4th event and leading by one, 7-6.
Standard old-school rules. Toss the balloon, take a step back, repeat until only 1 remains. The veteran white team again comes out swinging, quickly winning round 1. Blue regroups and makes some lineup changes and figures out how to catch a water balloon properly, taking round 2 narrowly. Round three saw some great throws and a couple of diving catches, with Assistant Coach Jimmy winning it for the white team. White now leads 8-6.
Event 7 was the whole-team competition, this year soccer replaced basketball. Wrestlers are actually better, it appears, at soccer than basketball, although it was pretty close.
Close game, lots of chaos, White team continues to dominate with captain Keith Jaworski's mid-field chip shot over everyone and right into the net. White wins 2-1 and takes an almost insurmountable lead 10-6. White needs to win 1 of the final two events to win The Donkey.
Generally we save the Belly-flop contest for the last event, but given the situation, if white were to win the raft race, there would be no point in having the belly-flop contest, so the judges decided to do it as the 9th event, worth 3 points. I really, really, really wish we had video of this. This year was outstanding. Here are some photos:
This one came down to sudden death, and was won on a razor thin margin. Blue pulls out a couple of the fiercest belly flops ever seen and wins the three points, pulling the score to 10-9 White.
The final event was the raft race, and I must admit, my raft choice was not good. Last year's rafts were abducted from the locker-room, so I went with new ones, that unfortunately were very bulky. This race was over almost as soon as it began as the Blue team won by a full length of the pool to claim the 2nd Annual Blue vs. White Fitness Decathlon.
Congratulations to the Blue Team, winners, 11-10.
