Rising Junior and captain Sam Campbell was named to the CoSIDA Academic All District team over the weekend. You can read the full story here, but here are the highlights:
LEXINGTON, Va. – The College Sports Information Directors of America [CoSIDA]released its 2010 ESPN The Magazine men’s and women’s academic all-district at-large teams on Thursday morning and Washington and Lee placed four athletes on the first or second teams for the District III College Division.
Campbell earned a spot on the first team for the first time in his career. A politics and English double-major, he posted a 16-7 overall record while wrestling at 141 pounds this winter. Campbell also notched a team-high 44 takedowns and ranked second on the squad with 21 escapes en route to receiving Scholar All-America honors by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
...Campbell [was] among 10 athletes selected to the team from a grouping of 25 different sports among small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. The criteria for the CoSIDA Academic All-American program states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve, and claim a GPA of at least a 3.30 on a 4.0 scale.
