Back from the hand doctor and cast free! Bone is still broken, but the Doc says there is enough new bone growth to allow me to lose the cast and begin using my digits again! It's only been a month, but the stiffness in my fingers is pretty significant. Since I've been pretty negligent in my blogging responsibilities while healing up, I figure I can work the stiffness out quickly by updating this site a bit more often.
There is a lot going on here, Early decision 1 was a huge success, even though we didn't get everyone we hoped, and ED 2 is looking pretty good. My goal every year is to get seven recruits enrolled, and aside from last year's financial aid situation, I've basically been hitting my mark. Retention is another issue that I am currently addressing, and I don't think it will be a problem any longer with the type of student-athletes that I am bringing in, which is also exciting.
Our dual meet season gets in full swing this weekend with the W&L Quad where we face 3 pretty solid teams, 2 familiar opponents in Washington & Jefferson and Gettysburg, and a new one in Penn State Dubois. We have been dealing with the flu a little bit this past week, and apparently yesterday was knee injury day, claiming 3 guys. All are day to day, and we hope to know more tomorrow after resting them for 36 hours. Unfortunately this year we do not have any room (or backups) for injuries, so it could make for a very difficult team season. My plan is to focus on each individual and prepare for the conference tournament rather than worry about the dual meet season, which is inherently pointless, as there is no dual meet tournament at the end of the year. It's nice to win dual meets, but it's better to win the Conference tournament!
Let me also apologize for the lack of new photos so far this year. My car was broken into over christmas while I was recruiting, and my briefcase containing my digital camera was stolen, along with most of my recruiting materials (hopefully the thieves know some smart wrestlers out there and disseminated so of my stuff) (probably not). Lexington had 22" of snow over the Christmas break, which is probably the biggest snow fall in a very long time, and I'm sure the campus looked very nice. I would have loved to put some pics up on here. I will search around the office and W&L website for some and hopefully put them up. Our resident photojournalist Dad is back for the rest of the year to take some action shots so I will be posting those as well. Thanks in advance Laszlo Veres!
Come back more frequently, I will have more to write and now have the capacity to type with both hands!
