First tournament done with and in the books, and we definitely did some good things, and we definitely did some not so good things. One thing that was out of our control were the draws, and with Division 1 teams Maryland and Rutgers sending their underclassmen, we had some tough early matchups.
The good news: Sophomore David Dennis took 2nd place! Dennis wrestled three tough matches to make it to the finals, before losing a "closer than the final score" match (4-0) to the 4th ranked guy at 157 in Division 3. Pretty good start for David, and we feel he can continue to improve and really make an impact this year.
Senior Sammy Brusca won 2 matches by fall, but ran into two Maryland buzzsaws, and did not place. Junior Keith Jaworski advanced to the Championship quarterfinals before losing to the eventual champion (also ranked 4th in the country), and the 4th place finisher to finish 2-2 on the day.
I think had we wrestled the W&L Fall classic we would have had some better performances, as this was quite the tournament to kick-off the season, and everyone their had already wrestled 2 to 4 times, which makes a huge difference.
All in all, I am very pleased with some of the performances, and a bit disappointed in others, but we'll work on some things this week and continue to improve.
