The first annual BvW Decathlon, dubbed "The Battle for the Donkey" will begin in 3 days on Saturday. Our annual W&L Fall Wrestling Classic tournament was canceled at the last second, so we've decided to start a new tradition. We will hold a draft on Thursday, without the team knowing the events (adding to the suspense) and competition begins on Saturday morning.
Embracing the wonderful facilities we have at W&L, we will be using almost every facility on campus. It begins on the football field, then moves to the track, then to the bleachers, then to the Football/Lax practice fields, then to the soccer fields, then inside to the basketball gym, then the wrestling gym, and finally finishes in the pool. The winning team gets possession of the Donkey for a year.
We are looking forward to the beginning of something fun, but it will also be very difficult. I spent quite a bit of time designing the events, and the team will certainly be asked to perform at high levels, while also having a great time!
Early decision is rapidly approaching and I feel very good about the young men that have committed so far, and am hopeful that the last few on the fence will have the realization that there is no better place to have a total college experience than Washington & Lee University!
